Many studies were conducted about the gall bladder symptoms in men but these showed that men suffer from “silent gallstones”. This term refers to the occurrence of disease without any symptoms and men patients most of the time remain asymptomatic.

A study revealed that men although possessing galls stones, just 4% of them suffered from severe pain in upper abdomen that persists for more or less half an hour. The intensity of pain is that it led the men patient to lay down on ground or bed and require analgesia, as compared to the 18% of women patients of gallstones.

Although, men are asymptomatic as compared to women but, even then they may suffer from severe upshots because these symptoms may resemble from the symptoms of other diseased conditions. That is why; there is a tough chance of miss-diagnosis of gallstones in men. Some of the Gall bladder symptoms in men are as follows

Severe ache in abdominal area:

This pain can be less intense and constant, can be sharp and strong in intensity and can occur either unbroken or only when men exerts force or some effort on abdominal region. Pain can also initiate in the region of gallbladder. Pain is very severe that it can reach up to the shoulders.

Jaundice:

Gall stone may get in the way in the bile duct leading to an obstruction that consequently results in jaundice. Due to this reason, bile secretion goes back to the liver and from there; it is pushed to be drained in blood. It ultimately results in turning of skin complexion into pale yellowishness, plus the eye whites also get yellowish.

Queasiness, nausea, and vomiting:

All these outcomes may be related to flu outcomes, but in reality, they occur because of gall stones. If these symptoms occur concomitantly with gall stones symptoms, then it means the real cause is gall stones in spite of flu.

Fever, chills:

These may also be common gall bladder symptoms in men.

Digestive disorders:

Too much mass expand, headache, gastric acid reflex, diarrhea as well as constipation.

Gallstones (Cholelithiasis) are basically lumps of crystalline solids that are the result of accumulation of bile products i.e., bilirubin and biliverdin. Along with it, 2 other concretions are of Cholesterol and mixed stones. All are the precipitation product of the bile secretions

Although, these are formed locally in gallbladder but have the tendency to move to the distal parts of the body via bile duct. Its presence is troublesome as it can lead to life-threatening problems that are well thought-out as “Medical Emergency” including pancreatitis, biliary duct obstruction, growth of micro-organisms, cholangitis, cholecystitis.

Composition & features:

If yellow to green colored gallstones appear, then these are made up of cholesterol. Around 80% come under this class.

If greenish or brownish colored gallstones appear, then these are made up of bile products i.e., bilirubin and biliverdin.

Size & Shape:

Its size can vary and may range from as minute as pollen grains to certain centimeters.

Types:

Cholesterol gallstones

Pigment gallstones

Mixed gallstones (composed of salts & cholesterol).

Causes:

Exact reason of gallbladder stones is still not known but, they seem to appear in patients with:

liver cirrhosis,

genetic blood malignancies and

Biliary tract inflammations & infections.

Certain other prevailing causes are related to surplus cholesterolexcretion such as:

gender

obesity

excess levels of estrogen

cholesterol lowering medication

diabetes mellitus

swift weight pasting

Symptoms:

Most of the patients are asymptomatic. But the symptomatic patients show symptoms that exist after fatty food ingestion mainly at the night time. These include:

sturdy ache in superior abdomen which gets worsen with time and persists from minutes to several hours

backache

vomiting & nausea

digestive disorders

swelling of abdomen

chronic intolerance of fatty meals

Diagnosis:

Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP)

CT- scan

Blood tests

Treatment:

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a kind of surgical intervention which is done to remove gallbladder stones.

Treatment plan for the gallbladder stone highly depends on the severity and the frequency of the symptoms and the effects on the quality of life. If the symptoms are infrequent and mild then surgery is usually, not recommended. Doctors may suggest painkillers to control the symptoms. Surgery is recommended only in case of severe and frequent symptoms leading to a reduction in the quality of life.

Surgery:

It is the most common gallbladder stones treatment. The surgery for stone removal is termed as the Cholecystectomy or more accurately, as the laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In this surgery, surgeons mark several small incisions in abdomen and introduce several surgical tools and a tiny video camera.Camera capture magnified images of the inside organ to a monitor that enables the surgeons to have a close look at the tissues and the organs. After careful examination, surgeons cut the cystic duct and the gallbladder is removed through the small incisions.

If the surgeon determines any difficulty in the laparoscopic surgery like scarring or infection because of another operation the doctors may suggest the open surgery. In certain cases problems are known before the surgery and the open surgery is suggested in the beginning. It is named as the open surgery because the team of surgeons has to mark about 5-8 inches cut into abdomen to eradicate the gallbladder stone. It is a major surgery and usually takes a stay of about 2-7 days in hospitals and several weeks rest at home for proper recovery.

The very common obstacle in gallbladder surgery is infection to bile ducts which may cause leakage of bile causing painful and dangerous infections. Mild injuries are usually treated with non-surgical ways, while the major injuries demands additional surgery. If the stone is in bile ducts, surgeon may make use of ERCP in stone removal before the gallbladder surgery. An instrument naming endoscope cut the bile duct and the stone is seized in a small basket and is then eradicated with endoscope.

An individual has the surgery done if diagnosed with a gallbladder stone in bile ducts days, months and even after several years of surgery are recommended to go for 2-day ERCP procedures for the successful removal of stone.

Some other treatments for gallbladder stone are as follows

Non-surgical treatment:

Non-surgical treatments are prescribed only in some conditions like the patient’s situation avoids the use of anesthetic and is recommended only for the cholesterol stones. Stones usually reappear after the non-surgical treatments.

Oral dissolution treatment:

In gallbladder stones treatment drugs composed of the bile acid are prescribed to patients for stone removal. It may takes months or even years for proper removal of the stone. Sometimes the drug may cause acute diarrhea and raise the levels of liver enzymes called transaminase and the blood cholesterol.

Contact dissolution treatment:

In this procedure a drug is injected into the bladder to completely dissolve the stone. This treatment is tested on patients with non-calcified, symptomatic cholesterol stones.

ESWL (Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy):

In this treatment shockwaves are given to patients to break stones in small pieces that can easily pass through bile duct without any blockage. Intense pain may occur after the treatment. Remains of the stones are then dissolved with medicines.

Usually pregnant women experience aches and pain, so, it’s been difficult to differentiate these pains and gallbladder symptom during pregnancy. During pregnancy almost 12% of the women may face the problem of gallstone. Pregnant women are at higher risk of having gallbladder problem. During pregnancy the level of hormones like progesterone and estrogen increases and affect the function of gallbladder. Sometimes, these complications may increases and become so intricate that surgery may also be required. While, at times this problem reduces after the baby’s delivery. The chances of gallstone in pregnant women are high because of the some changes in the body.

Followings are the gallbladder symptoms during pregnancy.

Upper abdomen pain:

One symptom is having pain in the upper abdomen that may be at peak for almost 15 to 60 minutes. This pain may end within 15 hours. Pain also spread to the shoulders blades and also to the right shoulder. While this pain comes and goes sometimes it is sharp and sometimes mild. This pain is due to the gallstone and it will cut down with relaxing the gallbladder.

Nausea and vomiting:

Nausea and vomiting are also the gallbladder symptoms during pregnancy, one may have unbearable pain around the abdomen, while sitting straight or walking, and one may also feel gas increase in the body that causes belching and burping.

Chill and fever:

This may also cause chill and high fever, so, you might have to visit your doctors, it means that you may are in a serious condition. If, one does not consult doctors, this condition may change to jaundice, it is the condition which blocked the bile flow and it moves back to liver and then passes through the bloodstream. In such condition one must monitor the yellow color of the skin and eyes.

Gastrointestinal symptoms:

Having gallbladder problem pregnant women may also have digestive difficulty, and she feels this problem more when she eats something and feels nauseated after eating. Sometime it may also cause diarrhea and that results in loose stools throughout the whole day. She may also experience a severe heartburn. It is quite difficult to differentiate between indigestion and gallbladder symptoms. So, pregnant women need to be more conscious during pregnancy about any problem throughout the day so, she should tell the doctors about her condition. So that they could administer the treatment accurately

Some other symptoms:

Apart from the above mentioned symptoms that are more common for gallstone in the pregnant woman. Some other symptoms may also appear, depending on the condition and severity of the problem. Changing color of stool is also the symptom of gallbladder in the pregnant woman, she may notice the change in the color of her stool that is different than normal appearance and changes into a burnt red shade. She may also feel changes in her complexions that might be more yellowish or jaundiced.

If a Gallbladder symptom during pregnancy appears, the patient may have to visit the doctors, to get the treatment at the right time, otherwise the situation might become severe.

When we think of parts of the body that we may have problems with the gallbladder may be the least likely we think of. However, there is much that can go wrong with the gallbladder and its functions. The gallbladder is an organ that is part of our digestive system. It’s located in the upper right side of the abdomen just under the liver.

The most common problem we may suffer is gallstones. These are tiny deposits that look very similar to minute pebbles or stones causing great pain. These tiny stones work their way down into the small intestine causing great pain. If caught in time a gallstone can be relieved over a matter of days but there other problems that, if not caught in time, can lead to greater discomfort.

To make sure that you get the very best gallbladder diagnosis available you must make sure that the physician is equipped for all forms of diagnostic testing equipment, which will include imaging. This may come in the form of an ultrasound or a nuclear scan which is called a hepatobiliary scan.

Any gallbladder condition needs to be checked thoroughly to make sure that there has been no damage to surrounding organs such as the liver or the pancreas. At the slightest pain in the abdomen or back area it’s recommended that you seek help immediately to make sure that this is not a gallbladder attack of any type.

Check out this great info about gallbladder in youtube channel!

Heartburn can be a big symptom of problems within the gallbladder. Most people do not associate the symptoms of indigestion and heartburn with a failing organ. However, it is one of the most significant signs that the organ is functioning at less than maximum capacity. The gallbladder stores bile, and it secrets it into the digestive tract when food is consumed and needing digested. This can cause pain and bloating which is often thought to be heartburn and indigestion.

People may also feel a type of bloating and discomfort during the indigestion. Stomach areas can be slightly extended and burping will often happen to help relieve the built up pressure. Cramping can accompany this uncomfortable sensation. There are several different methods that can help relieve this uncomfortable sensation. A lot of people find pain medications, and antacids help give temporary relief from the symptoms of a failing gallbladder.

Ultimately the removal of the gallbladder will be the best method to help these symptoms. Unfortunately, sometimes doctors will not find that the removal is the best option so managing the symptoms through diet will be the best course of action. Just a few simple changes in your diet will give you adequate symptom and pain relief. Gallbladder problems affect more people than previously thought, but most go unnoticed due to people brushing off their symptoms due to referred pain.

There are several different tests you can undergo to determine if you have a gallbladder problem. People will often ignore pain they are having in part of their body called referred pain once they have an ultrasound showing no sludge or stones. This is in fact a grave error that people make, and the gallbladder can actually be functioning at lower than normal capacity due to disease. Normal tests such as an ultrasound, or CTscan will not pick up on any abnormality within the organ.

First let’s go over what each test is:

Ultrasound – This test looks at the secretion of the bile into the gallbladder, and the structure of the organ. It looks for sludge and stones.

CT SCAN – This test will pick up on any tissue death, infection or stones that the ultrasound didn’t.

Now that you are familiar with the two most commonly run tests there is another test called the HIDA scan. This test is used when doctors feel the organ is failing. Here is a medical overview of the test:

HIDA scan which stands for hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid scan Shows doctors images or pictures of your liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and small intestine. Cholescintigraphy, hepatobiliary scintigraphy and hepatobiliary scan are also names for this scan.

A HIDA scan is used with radioactive material which means this cannot be done if you are pregnant, nursing or have a depressed immune system. Often this scan will last for four to six hours with a person laying flat, while the gall bladder does its best to function. After this scan has finished a percentage of how well the organ is functioning. Doctors often like to see the organ at 30% or better in order for them to leave it in the body. Other wise it can make patients sicker, as the gallbladder does not do its job properly.

Referred gallbladder pain is one of the most tricky for doctors to diagnose because it does not present where it should. When patients are in a lot of pain and show up at the ER, doctor’s will often look for a problem where the patient is complaining of feeling the pain. This can often delay treatment because organ pain can be referred or in other words, be somewhere completely unrelated to the organ itself.

When the gallbladder is failing often people will suffer from hiccups, or severe heartburn and indigestion. Never once do people associate this pain with their gallbladder. Of course when they start having pain in their sides, or back they will go to the ER and complain of stomach/back pain. Doctors will often assume they have what is called a stomach ulcer and begin checking the patient for this problem.

Sometimes a physical examination will be given and the gallbladder will be sensitive to pressure applied in the area. A CT-scan or ultrasound will be given to check for stones and/or sludge present inside of the organ. While both of these tests are excellent at picking up stones, sludge or problems within the biliary ducts they cannot tell if the actual gallbladder itself is not functioning properly. If these tests rule out a gallbladder problem the the patient is then referred off to a different doctor, or simply given antacids to help the heart burn and sent home.

Once the patient has been referred off to a different doctor it can take weeks or months for another test to be run on the gallbladder. Since referred pain will often point to another organ or muscle being the problem doctor’s will often want to rule out any problems in that specific area before re-checking the gallbladder for problems. Referred gallbladder pain can make your shoulder, stomach, or even diapghram hurt, and it is such a very rare phenomenon that doctors don’t even know why it occurs.

The gallbladder polyp is not a very common aliment for those suffering from gallbladder problems. It affects about 5% of the population, and it only causes trouble in a very small percent of those affected. The polyp is a collection of “by products” and material. Since the gallbladder synthesizes a lot of cholesterol the most common gallbladder polyp is the cholesterol polyp.

Though it is rare to cause pain in the majority of people suffering from it, it can lead to other problems. One of the most severe conditions that can occur as a complication from gallbladder polyps is a carcinoma. While the connection between the gallbladder polyp and cancer is not well documented, it has been researched. Most researchers have made the connection between those who suffer from gall stones, and gallbladder polyps that can lead to carcinomas in the gallbladder.

Many people who suffer from polyps only have this condition identified because they have had other tests performed. Having a diagnostic ultrasound done is one of the main ways to pick up problems within the gallbladder. When this test is done, the signs of polyps can be seen. An increase in the wall, or thickness of the gallbladder would show that the gallbladder could be diseased.

Polyps that do not cause any discomfort can be left alone however, there are some popularly used methods to overcome this condition. The most common is the removal of the gall bladder. This procedure is called a cholecystectomy, and doctors will often remove the gallbladder to prevent the polyps from developing into cancer. There are several different methods in which the gallbladder polyp and gallbladder can be removed. Abdominal surgery is the oldest method, but it isn’t used due to the longer and more painful recovery time. Laparoscopic surgery is the most commonly used method due to recovery time, and the ease of surgery. This is a simple surgery and so many people opt for this method to remove the gallbladder polyp.

There are very few people who suffer symptoms from gallbladder sludge. This is a condition in which the gall bladder doesn’t properly function, and leaves sludge like material in the bottom of the organ. Only a few people suffer from symptoms of gallbladder sludge even though a lot of people suffer from this condition. There can be several causes for the gallbladder to malfunction causing this sludge to form.

Sludge forms when the gallbladder malfunctions. This is organ functions as storage area for bile that is produced in the liver. The stored bile is then sent to help aide in the digestion of food. Bile is full of acids that help breakdown the fat products, and other nutrition which are consumed as food. When the gallbladder abnormally functions, bile doesn’t always get sent to the intestine. Other materials such as calcium, cholesterol, and the bile sit in the bottom of the gallbladder and form what we call gallbladder sludge.

When an excess amount of bile remains in the organ, and cholesterol and calcium join this causes a formation of thick sludge. The formation of this sludge can cause other problems such as stones, acid reflux, and even pain. This can cause the formation of stones in the gallbladder. These are often painful and can lead to the gallbladder rupturing if left untreated. Some people may suffer from one large stone, whereas other people may suffer from more than one smaller stones.

The smaller stones are easily expelled naturally, but when one or several stones are larger this can lead to the blocking of the bile ducts. This can lead to severe pain in the abdomen and other serious problems. While having sludge alone in your gallbladder may not give you any serious problems, other people might have serious health issues because of it. The only treatment for this problem is the removal of the gallbladder. This will give the person instant relief from the various symptoms they may suffer from. Gallbladder sludge needs to be treated as soon as it is identified to prevent further complications from happening.
