Gallbladder Sludge

There are very few people who suffer symptoms from gallbladder sludge. This is a condition in which the gall bladder doesn’t properly function, and leaves sludge like material in the bottom of the organ. Only a few people suffer from symptoms of gallbladder sludge even though a lot of people suffer from this condition. There can be several causes for the gallbladder to malfunction causing this sludge to form.

Sludge forms when the gallbladder malfunctions. This is organ functions as storage area for bile that is produced in the liver. The stored bile is then sent to help aide in the digestion of food. Bile is full of acids that help breakdown the fat products, and other nutrition which are consumed as food. When the gallbladder abnormally functions, bile doesn’t always get sent to the intestine. Other materials such as calcium, cholesterol, and the bile sit in the bottom of the gallbladder and form what we call gallbladder sludge.

When an excess amount of bile remains in the organ, and cholesterol and calcium join this causes a formation of thick sludge. The formation of this sludge can cause other problems such as stones, acid reflux, and even pain. This can cause the formation of stones in the gallbladder. These are often painful and can lead to the gallbladder rupturing if left untreated. Some people may suffer from one large stone, whereas other people may suffer from more than one smaller stones.

The smaller stones are easily expelled naturally, but when one or several stones are larger this can lead to the blocking of the bile ducts. This can lead to severe pain in the abdomen and other serious problems. While having sludge alone in your gallbladder may not give you any serious problems, other people might have serious health issues because of it. The only treatment for this problem is the removal of the gallbladder. This will give the person instant relief from the various symptoms they may suffer from. Gallbladder sludge needs to be treated as soon as it is identified to prevent further complications from happening.
